Hi all,

I'm new to the forum although I have browsed here in the past. I just wanted to confirm what I need to do to extend my stay in Turkey up to a year?

I've just arrived in Turkey on a 90 day tourist visa and am trial living in Istanbul. My partner is an Istanbullu and we have been living together in London for the past fifteen years, but due to the weather and my desire to get my average Turkish up to more like fluent we decided on the move. :)

To get an extension to allow me to stay up to a year and make the trial worthwhile, is it simply a case of applying for a permit on economic grounds? I (we) have a good joint income from property investments in the UK and Turkey although most of that money is in UK bank accounts. I also have my own company in the UK which is flexible enough to allow me to work from Istanbul, so I am also earning a salary whilst I am here. Due to the uncertainty around my status we are currently renting short-term. Ideally, in the future I will buy a property in my name (our Turkish property is in my partners), but I think I need a permit before I can even do that?

Apart from my proof of income, is there anything else I need to prove to get a permit to stay longer? Are there any significant do's and don't's?

I'd be grateful for any advice!
