Hey

I was interested in teaching english in Turkey, but I'm not sure which city has the best opportunities. Also, I intend to arrive in turkey in mid march of this year, would that be a difficult time to find work? How much does an english teacher expect to make a month?

Thanks :)

It depends on what you expect. If you want a very fast life and challenge, istanbul would be better for you.but izmir is more modern and friendly city and a little bit cheaper to live.i wish you can choose best for you.

Hi

We need a native English speaker teacher for working with 3 to 6 years old children in a day care and kindergarten. Our school is in Ankara but we can provide a place to live. If you interested, please contact me from my e-mail.

Hi
You asked some reasonable questions and may not be getting the answers you like!

Which city - always more opportunities in the big cities - Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and yet there are small language schools in almost every city.

What opportunities - March arrival is problematic as it is after the 2nd semester has started for schools/universities and the next change round time would be September. So you are looking for a limited martket of someone leaving a job or a new position being created. Summer jobs exist but less so as people go away from the big cities on holiday!

How much do you earn - depends where you are! In the cities which are expensive - eg Istanbul you will be paying out a lot for accommodation and transport and everything costs a bit more - food, drink, entertainment (although everything is there) you get paid more. 30TL an hour for a lesson at a language school up to 200TL an hour for a private lesson if you have the right contacts. Perhaps 2700 TL a month if you have a full time job.

Outside these centres the rates drop fast - Marmaris/Antalya pay 10-15TL an hour for a school lesson and 50TL for a private would be rare! A full time job on 1500TL would be good. But you are paying much less for the acc, transport etc.

Depending on how long you plan to be in Turkey, what you should look at first is do your qualifications allow you to be employed by a reputable school - degree/ TEFL qualification, experience so you can get a work permit or are you going to be illegal! Google to find out the schools in Turkey and the TEFL websites and check out information and reputations and then work out how much cash you have to live on before you get your job! And read the pages here of people hunting for ages!

Good luck
