We are from the UK and living in Turkey for the past six years. We have been home schooling our six year old daughter ever since and are very happy with how things are going. Socialising is a problem in Turkey where home schooling is an unheard of concept. We joined Education Otherwise in the UK and visit organised groups whenever we go back. Here we make sure our daughter gets as much time with friends as possible. We would love to organise some sort of group for home schoolers in Istanbul but there has never been enough of a response. Good to know others are home schooling here too. Feels a little lonely sometimes!

Hi all,

I would love to know what your experiences are with homeschooling in Turkey - do you need to be registered with the education department? We are currently in Australia and hoping to relocate and want to know as Australian citizens do you we need to report to an authority over there... we are Turkish citizens also.

Turkey is so rich in history and learning experiences, I think my kids will have such a great time without the added school factor. I am concerned about the kids mixing with other children though.

Hello, in case you need, or would like to start with, private piano lessons for kids don't hesitate to contact me. Their social skills might be improved by music

Hello,
We would be moving to Istanbul this summer.
Considering the low quality education system in public schools in Turkey and the super high cost of private schools, I would love to homeschool my 4,5 years old. But she looooves to be social. If we can form regular playdates with some educational twists, i think it would be great.
How can we all get together and expand?

M

Thanks for that Peri, lets see what I can work out when I get there. Melis, I'm in a similar situation as you though my children are alot older than yours.

Hello,

My daughter is 7 and just joined my husband and I here in Istanbul, from US. I am planning to homeschool her but would love to hear more from other families as well as set up some regular playmates. If anyone is interested please contact me! Thanks

Hello missus,
we moved to istanbul 6 months ago and have 2 kids 10 and 12 years old
I tried to work with them at home but feel like I'm not succeeded :(
we were living in dubai and almost 90% of schools there are english speaking, but here few of them and those few are very expensive :|
would be happy if there would be any chance, my children can meet up with the same age range and know get to know more about homeschooling :)

Hi, I am another homeschooling parent here in Istanbul (my son is 11). While we only moved to Istanbul a few months ago we are not new to homeschooling so would love to meet up with any other homeschooling parents to talk about how it is going. Just get in touch via PM

Hi,my son is 8 yr old and we are also decided to omeschool our son through live e-school portal....my son likes it.
We are onl 1 week here in Istanbul and i was looking for a school in Istanbul and unfortunately they don't accept him ashe doesn't know Turkish.

As someone mentioned here that most of the schools in Dubai are taught in English but here unfortunately the schools either Turkish or private international and cost vast of money. So we decide to go with homeschool that following British Curricullum.
