We could be due to move in a couple of months (mum dad and 4 yr old), location will be based on the shortest commute possible from work (Yenibosna) and school (tbc). I just wondered what thoughts were on each of these schools. Location of IICS Marmara would be great for us, but as we will return to Blighty in 2/3 years the idea of BISI is attractive too (Although not essential as he is only starting at pre-school level). However, when I read teacher feedback on BISI on the International schools review website it was absolutely terrible! I always believe happy teacher - happy children, so would hate to think that staff have to endure extreme misery. This was 2/3 years ago, so I wondered if there was more stability now? Although they are still not an accredited BI school are they? All the fees are bl**dy horrendous, it only costs a few thou more to go to Eton fgs!!

Main needling point is:

I battled for my son to have a place in the UK in September at an ofsted grade 1 (outstanding) for free, so hard to swallow $25k in fees for a potentially useless school. The guilt I will carry at having to put him in an inferior school! I'd rather stay at home give him sound schooling and take an poorly paid job if that's the case. However, it would be sad for us all to miss this life experience I think.

Any teachers, or parents with kids in the primary grades in the schools prepared to give feedback? Any other options - Canadian system for example?

I know some of these conversations have gone round and round, but they haven't been updated for around a year as far as I can see, so a current, balanced view would be great. I know I will have to visit for myself, but it's difficult at reception level without the Ofsted reports I'm used to, to judge a school. I was thinking of bringing a close friend of mine (ex-UK headmaster) to visit, would that be a sound idea?

Hello

We have enrolled our 2 kids (year 1 and year 3) in the BISI in Zekeriakoy.
I hear very positive feedback from IICS Marmara. Forget about those comments, some times is done by teachers that were fired.
The international schools are not expected to be the sames ones you can find in the UK. They are multi cultural schools and in my opinion this a very important things. My kids are able to play and make friends with kids from all over the world. Forget those comments and believe that you son will have an exceptional experience.
The school fees are extremely high, in fact all private education in Turkey is really expensive.

If you can easy adapt and you are open for new experiences, you will love Turkey. I have been here only 3 months and after spending 4 years in Poland, I feel almost in heaven.

The best thing of Turkey, is the people except when they are driving (they became totally mad)

Regards,

BISI is not inspected by OFSTED and there are no checks on the quality of the teaching/curriculum.

CORBIS who they make a lot out of it nothing more than a Trade Body and as such does almost nothing in terms of quality assurance.

I can not comment on IICS but BISI does not match anything like the quality you would expect from a independent school in the UK. The "British" name is little more than a marketing device.
