Hi Lilly,

I don't know where you're at in the process at this point. I'm in a similar situation. I'm American, and my husband is Turkish. We got married here in Turkey last March (2014). In July we sent the envelop of papers to begin the I-130. We REALLY struggled with how to pay, since we are here in Turkey.

Do you have an open bank account in the US? Do you have checks for that account? If so that's the easiest way to go. If you have an account but no check, consider ordering them. It wasn't very expensive even with international shipping ($27).

Eventually I figured out I could have my mom write a check on my behalf. So I sent her the I-130 envelope, had her add a check for $420 (from her account and in her name, not mine) and she sent it to USCIS. We did send to the Chicago lock box address listed on the instructions.

I learned this the hard way, and it set us back about 4-5 months. I first sent the I-130 envelope and then called my bank to send a check on my behalf. Our paperwork was returned a couple months later for insufficient payment. They said the payment needs to be included with the paperwork. I then tried to order checks from my bank, to include with the paperwork. But they sent to the wrong address and I didn't receive them. I was running out of options and called to ask if someone can write a check for me. They still wouldn't say yes / no but I gave it a try and it worked!

It was approved, and we're now starting the National Visa Center Processing.

You have to do it from the states. And he will probably have to remain in Turkey until it is approved.

I married in istanbul.. Came back to the states... filed the i-130 which was approved in 6 mos... then he will get an interview in Turkey w/ the consulate or whoever, a few months later.... then will get one more date with the embassy or consulate who will give him a packet of papers which he cannot open. And a date to come to USA and finallycome there and will receive his green card upon entry when going thru Immigration.

The cost is like 900 all together plus probably 500 for a lawyer to file this stuff for you.

Get yourself a Turkish lawyer in the states if you can (ours was a family friend luckily who was a turkish lawyer.)
