Hi all,

This is my first post.

We are moving to Ankara during what will hopefully be my second trimester!
Initially my research told me to not have a baby in Ankara and to return to say, the states, instead.
I have been researching and researching to see if I can come up with some solid reasons to decide one way or another but haven't found enough convincing information either way.

Can anyone help?

Thank you!

Hi; What makes you frightened. if you are thinikng of health system.

I can suggest you to choose one of private hospitals in Ankara. You can trust them. But if you are plannnig to go govermental hospitals ..err.. even if govermental hospitals has to many possiblities with very professional doctors , i still prefer private hospitals if i have enought money.

wish you healty baby:

good luck

Why on earth would you want to return to the States?

Ankara has very good medical facilities and equally competent medical staff.

A private delivery (about 4 years ago) would set you back approximately $2000 - private room - doctor on call - etc.

If you are still nervous PM me and I will put you in touch (no strings attached) with people who know more about it.

I'd be happy to refer you to my Dr. She's a little expensive but so worth it. She speaks fluent English and has a lot of foreign patients. PM me if you want her info.

Well, actually a close friend of mine went back home recently for that same reason!
She said she just couldn't find a good doctor in Ankara!
I hope this is not true...I often wonder...Where do the locals give birth at?? They leave the country too?

The funny thing is, many of the locals who can afford it, do indeed leave the country to give birth, though for very different reasons. They go to the States at the last minute they are permitted to fly and then give birth there so the kid will have American citizenship :)

I live in İstanbul but have not given birth here, though I must say, in terms of quality of the healthcare here I don't think I would hesitate giving birth in İstanbul or Ankara for that matter. One problem you might have though is finding a doctor who will not insist on you having a Caesarean whether it's medically necessary or not, but I hear that has been getting easier these past few years as well.

Wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy and a healthy baby!

I know a few who have given birth in Ankara. 3 out of 2 had normal birth, so this is possible and can be done :D
But I also know expats who have left the country in order to be sure to get the natural delivery. I think it is really important how you choose your doctor and how well you are prepared...
Good luck!
