yes , Ankara is so boring and not many people speak English , so the foreigner here feels like so lonely. IfI can leave now, I will certainly do, have been to many other countries where I was easily socializing with the locals and foreigners too, here it not that easy .

I believe if you have friends, you won't feel bored! This is true for Ankara or any other city! Yes, I admit that Ankara is not like Istanbul but there are tons of things to do in Ankara, too. What kinds of things you are looking for? If you can specify, I will try to help you to find something for you! :)

Why Ankara is a boring city?

- Because the city design is so soulless... Taking a look at city panorama hurts my eyes.
- Because the outdoor activity options are so limited. As it's just a capital city, it's a civil servant heaven. People prefer living at their homes after the work.
- Because Ankara is isolated from almost all of the good locations. It's far away from all fun, historical, green... in short good places...
- Because there're not any river, lake (except Golbasi, which so greenless and dirty), sea... No water... Sometimes not even from the tabs! :)
- Night life options are soooo limited.
- Number of beautiful girls are soooo limited! :)

Okay, maybe I concentrate too much on dark side :)
Nonetheless, all the things I mentioned above expalins why living in Ankara is one of the hardest things in whole life...

Cheers...

I have lots of friends and I still find this city to be a dreadful bore because there is nothing to do except sit in a cafe or go to bad retro music playing bars

Lizsey,

There is a park in the Golbasi district called Mogan where you can enjoy a nice walk or bike ride.
You can also walk along the edge or inside the forest in Oran or along the Eymir Lake. All three of these sites are close to each other. These sites are a bit far from the city center - but you can check them out when you have a chance.
There are probably other places - but i am only familar with the Cankaya - Oran area.

You can also go to Dikmen Vadisi which is very close to Atakule. this park is in the very center of the city and has a very beautiful view. There are cafes inside where you can rest, or you could even go there for brunch at weekends.I sometimes go there with my friends for photographing birds and butterflies:)

hmm this forum died i think, but in anyway ill post my opinion since im waiting here at the laundry for 4 hours bored :/

I have lived in Antalya and worked my way east in a volunteer project for 9 months in 2007. Now I am studying for a yr at metu.odtu. Now its not Istanbul, not Antalya, and not Diyabakir, but the landscape is beautiful. The problem is since its not a touristic center, alot of people feel misplaced... But back in the USA, washington dc is the same way... dead to the tourist, but dead to the person who tries. There are alot of historical sites and roman ruins to look at, good hiking places, in winter nice sports, they constantly have plays and operas, and the panoramic view is gorgeous! My campus is so beautiful and there is so much green around here. There is biking marathons every thursdays and if you go to Gencpark is a land of amusement, its really pretty....

Now, the people are a little more serious than your average mediterrarean Turk, but just because the history of this place is different. Ive been withering slowly sometimes at univ cause of miscommunication sometimes, and they assume Im a capitalistic American flag thrower, but its about communication... i dunno either that or they really just dont like my face :/ anywho, i hope my pessimisim goes down and I start to see the better parts of Ankara too, im trying!!!!
