Hi All!
My name is Klara, and I am a violinist and writer, who will be coming to Turkey for a few months, and pursuing an independent research project on different performance spaces and Gypsy music. Or at least - that's what I want to do. I fell in love with Istanbul when I was there for a couple of days on my way to South Africa, and now I am trying to use the travel fellowship that I am on to explore more of Turkey. However, for my fellowship to allow me to go to Turkey I need to find a violin teacher (not classical), in order for my stay in Turkey to make sense. What kinds of performance spaces are common in Turkey? Do you know of any violin teachers or anybody else who could help me out? I am so excited to come to Turkey, but I don't speak any Turkish (yet), and so I am having trouble finding people on line with whom I can talk to. Plus, I am currently disoriented in South Africa. If anyone can give me any advice regarding Turkey and music, or Turkey and the expat life, it would be much appreciated!
I have lots of experience playing classical, but I've also busked a lot and have played with various genres - I also compose. If anyone has some sort of group that they need a violinist for, I'd love to play for you (starting in January.)
Cheers,
Klara
