Pit Bulls are banned in MANY countries and some U.S. cities. As a former shelter volunteer, I can tell you they're by FAR the breed most often abandoned in shelters, as it's difficult to rent or get insurance when you own one. Most shelters euthanize them on arrival.

Why don't you and other Pit Bull buyers do a bit of research before promoting the breeding and selling of Pit puppies, since you'll now be one of the people who has to abandon yours... Next time you get a dog, why not get a breed that can be rehomed in an emergency, rather than one that has to be euthanized when you happen to move? I guess your ____ must be kind of small since you need these macho breeds to make people think you're a man.

by the way... adopting or fostering dogs does not make you an expert silly. i briefly ready your masturbatory self-hate ridden blog ( very boring and full of hate) and realize you know nothing about dogs or how important they are to mankind.

Lesson 1 for you:
A human aggressive dog that bites people should be PUT DOWN humanely and immediately. All you are doing is harboring a ticking time bomb. you do nothing for the cause of ethical treatment to animals, instead you hold it back. but i guess it makes for good conversation with the other bored housewives. oh yeah, i forgot your an English teacher ( i wonder if anyone in the states would ever give you a teaching job, i doubt it)

Lesson 2: if it is true that you care for animals and you are not fostering because of your need to feel superior over others or your just plain old bored in turkey and you need friends who dot disagree with you you must understand this:
ALL DOGS are equally important. Do not label dogs MACHO breeds.

A Kangal would be considered MACHO by your ignorant standard yet is a dog of national pride and is used internationally for its great workmanship, intelligence and non-human aggressive manner.
The little hybrid furry things that you need in your life usually end up being the nasty ones. try a real dog one day.

That fact that you have an extremely self-important and boring blog ( as all blogs are), the fact that you foster dogs that have no place in our society tells me you are extremely bored and unhappy. I see a turkish divorce in your near future, and by reading the opinions you have of turks in your previous posts, i doubt it will be entirely HIS fault.

Try to be happy and do something productive Ms.AmericanWife. blogs are not productive, they serve no purpose other than to give you a false sense of significance.
There are children in the world who are starving, the worlds resources are depleting and you are feeding unwanted dogs that have no chance of rehabilitation. ....lol, you amuse me.

BTW i have done more research on dogs than you ever will. Your ignorant comments are testament to that. You know nothing about dogs, you just need furry little things with no brains dependent on you because you have no friends... only acquaintances. Keep blogging though, maybe your husband, in time, will stop being embarrassed by it and it might end up becoming so successful that you eventually get about 10 readers a month!!! LOL

Hi
you have lovely dogs :)
I have just moved back from Fethiye/Turkey,and like you im finding out too bring my dog back to the uk without Quarintine maybe going via greece?
I have lived in turkey for 4years and am sorry to say,but your darling babys are banned in turkey...
They are just getting used to having dogs their opening vet shops/pet shops etc.
They are really funny people with the dog side of things...i have a terrior/cross dog about 10kg and when i took him out the turkish people would cross the road or hide to the side i found it quite funny,i suggest you contact the turkish consulate before you try and bring your darlings in...I left in august and as far as i am aware your breed of dogs are still band.
I wish you all the best
elze :)

Hi Bobby!

I am also a new yorker (east village) looking to spend some time in istanbul with my dogs. in nyc, i work in animal rescue and i have two pit mixes of my own i'd like to bring to turkey. how did it go getting your pups to turkey? i hope they are safe and sound. btw, they are gorgeous--two of my fav breeds :)

any info would be REALLY helpful as i am also confused by everything i've read online and am appealing to you for recent first-hand experience.

ps--have you found any decent dog parks here?

i would also like to respond to the person who thinks that pit bulls are human aggressive and should be put down. pit bulls may have been bred to be dog aggressive, but they are still one of the most family-oriented, people loving dogs in existence. they are intelligent, loyal, and eager to please which means that they will do whatever their master wants them to do. IT IS BAD PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ATTACKS AGAINST HUMANS, NOT DOGS!!! a little intelligent research will confirm this.

and for those of you who think that the issue of homeless dogs is not important, look around you! homeless dogs are everywhere in turkey and negative attitudes/euthanasia aren't solving anything. the best way to deal with a surplus dog population is to change the public's perception about dogs. if people in turkey spayed/neutered their dogs and a small portion adopted dogs rather than bought them, THERE WOULD BE NO MORE HOMELESS DOGS. if you doubt me, please read anything by American lawyer turned no-kill advocate Nathan Winograd.

In conclusions, please do your homework before posting mind-numbing rubbish that just makes you look ignorant and asanine.

I'm not sure if you solve the problem but I'll write a few things.

First, unfortunately you can't take your rottweilers, pitbulls, dobermanns, staffordshires, bull terriers and dogo argentinos to the plane if you choose Turkish Airlines. We talked with them already and they say even in the box/crate these breeds can not be acceptable. Rottweiler Breed Association had tried to convince them since there is no law against rottweilers but they say no.

Secondly, pitbulls (and dogo argentinos) are banned. It's banned to breed, sell and import these dogs. But I'm not sure about bringing your adult dog to Turkey.

If you need further information I think I can ask.
