Hi, my name's Kate, and I've just (4 days ago, to be precise) moved to Izmir with my boyfriend. I would be very interested in meeting people who know their way around the city, because frankly I haven't a clue...about a lot of things. My boyfriend is Turkish and is a lot of help, but he works -- and anyway I don't like to put the burden of getting me settled in solely on him! I am 32, American, and have been working in recent years as an English teacher. I am trying desperately to learn Turkish (good grief, it's hard!), so any English/Turkish speakers out there would be especially welcome. I'm interested in art, literature, running, hiking, sailing and live music. I look forward to hearing from any of you who might have some time on your hands and be interested in meeting up!

Hi Kate,

my name is Sandra and I'm new to Izmir too - arrived a month ago from Switzerland with my husband.

So... I don't know my way around that much and my Turkish is totally inexistant - trying to organize classes- but a coffee would be good if you're willing!

Whereabouts in Izmir are you?

Hi Kate,

I just moved here from the States 2 weeks ago. I am also looking to meet some people and to find a Turkish class somewhere. Maybe we can meet somewhere! Maria

Hi Kate, Maria, and Sandra (sorry Paul) ...

Are you aware of the Izmir International Womens Association?

Their website is www, iwaizmir, com - this is a group of woman expats who meet regularly for coffee and dinner(the next coffee meet is Friday 21 July at Cafe Brownie in Alsancak).

Sheryl

Thanks so much Kiwisheryl!

I've been trying to find their site... I knew they existed somewhere. I'll definitely try to find the Café Brownie on Friday.

BTW, all of you, I need your help:

In utter desperation of not being able to meet peole, (and disappointed at Mymerhaba's preference to Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya) I set up a blog called Izmir Blog. It's aim is to compile all sorts of info & tips so that the knowledge of those who know, is not lost when they move on and it is shared with all those who need it.

Also it will focus on Izmir.

I just started this yesterday, but hopefully with your help and input it will grow. So please, have a look, post your comments, send your links, tips, pics to [email protected],com and I'll post them or add them to the existing links.

Here's to make things easier in Izmir!!!!

Thanks Emma,

I've just sent in my application to join the group. Now waiting for confirmation. Wow, this is serious business ;-)

Anybody who can tell me/us? where Café Brownie is in Alsancak... I don't know the area too well, but say, is it anywhere near Starbucks or the Hilton? Further to the right of Starbucks (when you're facing the sea) More or less where Zara is?

Thanks people! I appreciate it!
