Terry Fox Run 2007

The Canadian Embassy invites you, your family and friends to participate in the 27th annual Terry Fox Fun Run for Cancer Research in Ankara and Istanbul. Walk, bike, run, use your rollerblades or wheelchair, or simply share your enthusiasm and support!!

Terry Fox was a young Canadian diagnosed with bone cancer in 1977. While in hospital to have his right leg amputated, Terry was so moved by the suffering of cancer patients that he decided to run across Canada to raise funds for cancer research.

In 1980, Terry embarked on his ambitious journey, running an average of 42 kilometres every day for 143 days. Terry Fox died after a courageous battle against cancer but his spirit lives on.

Every year, "Marathons of Hope" are organised around the world to keep Terry's dream alive of finding a cure for cancer. In 2006, over $US 37,000 was raised in Turkey and we hope to exceed this amount in 2007!

Registration for events begins at 11:00 am followed by the Run starting at 12:00 noon. Routes will be clearly marked, with water stops available. Each event includes an eight-kilometre fun-run and walk, followed by refreshments and a raffle. The event is free and is open to all ages.

There are many ways you can get involved:
- by participating in one of the Terry Fox Runs and by encouraging others to participate;
- by making a financial contribution to the Turkish Cancer Society;
- by donating a product or service to be raffled off;
- by making a donation of food, beverages and/or goods to be sold on the day of the Run.
