Has anyone brought a European mobile from Vodaphone and tried using a turkish Vodafone SIM?

Is it not possible to put a Turkish Vodafone SIM into an Irish bought Vodafone handset?

I understand that I would have to register the phone first but as it's the same company wouldn't that work?

Hmmmmm......

you have both the Turkish registry phone issue and also whether Vodafone UK or wherever have locked the phone into their network to deal with. The last phone I got from Vodafone, is locked to their network and will not work with the Vodafone TK network, whereas previous phones have all worked with all of the TK carriers.

yes the quest for a backstreet dealer with the gear to unlock a phone continues, it's turning into a bit of a wild goose chase and might well be easier to buy a new one, the sign to look for is simkilit if anyone's interested.

You don't need to take your phone into a back street shop to get it unblocked...

I have a Vodafone handset bought in UK. It was over a year old so before I left UK I had in unblocked for free to take any sim card e.g. orange, t-mobile etc...

When I arrived in Turkey my phone worked with no problems with my UK and a new Vodafone TR sim for six weeks before it was blocked to TR sim. All you need to do is take your phone into Vodafone shop with TR sim CONTRACT and they will register your handset, take your passport aswell. It takes two days to two weeks and your phone will be unblocked to that sim.

Saying that Vodafone TR has no relationship with the rest of the Vodafone family and after a frustrating time with Vodafone TR, I did this with Turkcell who are far cheaper and given me a better service.

The reason that foreign phones get blocked is to stop people bringing old handsets into Turkey and selling them on the cheap.

If your getting it done in UK, I think it costs around £40. Take it into Vodafone shop and they can do it there and then. Hope this helps.

Before you buy the code, check the lock status of the phone.
