Today I took a sample exam of kaplan's Toefl IBT the results wasnt sattisfing at all. I have always spoken english very fluent I studied an english prepration class 3.5 years ago I had excellent scores but I cant apply to master program at out of turkey with my current toefl score. Therefore all my dreams ended today.

Sometime ago I found an opportunity to visit malta , france and germany and i promised myself to work hard to live somewhere in europe with a legal status.Im 23 years old and I have had only 1 girlfriend in my life so far and she was hungarian.I feel so alone in the country where i was born and Im just stuck here to live forever with my loneliness and boredom.I dont have any commons to share with turkish nation. They think so different then i do , their likes and dislikes and their murals are so different.I cant call myself a turk , I dont really feel like a turk but ill be have to be called as a turk througthout my life.

Sample exam means it is not real yet? Then you shouldnt be so pessimistic already.

I sympathize with you. Many people feel as you do -- that's why so many people immigrate to different countries, and not just from Turkey. You're still young, so it's too soon to give up. Have you ever researched what would be needed to immigrate to another country? Do you know where you'd like to live? You're at the right age to be able to work towards a long-term goal of emigrating from Turkey. Canada, for example, accepts immigrants from around the world and has many different immigration programs but the requirements are quite stringent, so it would definitely be a long-term project for you (for example, your English would have to be excellent to be considered as a skilled worker). On the other hand, there's also the Caregiver Program which does not require the same level of English but does require appropriate training in other areas (e.g. nursing or early childcare education). If immigrating to Canada interests you, I suggest you look at the government website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english. If another country interests you more, do your research. There are options for you, but you must discover them for yourself and network with others who might be able to help you with your English or with other ideas. The main point I'm trying to get across is for you to not give up! One sample test is not the end of the world! If anything, it may just give you some direction as to which areas need improvement. Good luck!

Life really is a b*** sometimes!

I feel with/for you!

Its so unfair to think about that I (as a Scandinavian) just can take my passport and travel to any country in the world (almost!) and just recieve smiles on my way. While you, as a turkish citizen, have to go thorugh this hell to do the same....and maybe not succeed anyway.

Damn the stupid rules! :(

Sorry for your "anguish". Not getting satisfactory results on a "sample" exam should not discourag you about the future. That was just one of many tests you will have to take through life.

Might I suggest trying to accept your situation in Turkey at the moment and think positive about it. What about family, do you not hang out with them? I mean you might not identify with Turks in general, but you should at least be able to identify with family. You might not like it but you don't have to let it get you down and out. Learn something. Yes you can leave turkey, but if you leave without any valuable skills, you will end up getting a low end job anywhere you go and soon might find yourself very unhappy.

Stay away from the caregiver jobs, it's going to be tough on you being a Male and Turkish, people become untrusting, if you were a 23yr old female that's a different story. sadly that's how the world works. Focus on something you like doing and get certificates in that. Brush up on your turkish grammar, maybe you can get a job as a Turkish teacher. Or start doing some sort of business, selling turkish products in other countries, maybe start off by doing business in Bulgaria, then expand to Greece, and start getting these visa's for business which will give you access to these other countries, then you can see if it is truly where you want to be. It's easy to say that the grass is greener on the other side, but try to get to the other side first to see if it is greener indeed.

Hı Kıjthae!!!!

Well I wıll be cynıcal - let me do ıt today!!!!

We all have the days when ıt feels that ıt ıs better to dıe than to lıve. But I remember that - I crıed for so long that I do not have shoes untıl I met a person wıthout legs !!!! Personally I have ıt once a month for sure!!!

I have couple of frıends who acknowledge that Turkısh ın general love complaınıng - for such people I usually say - ıf lıfe ıs so terrıble for you and you can not lıve ıt - just go and dıe

Try to lıve ın the country the language you do not understand - people have weırd black faces - they shout ın the streets - they stare at you as ıf you were a green alıen - and you are tryıng to lıve your lıfe !!!!!

And another thıng I beleıve - we are ın the sıtuatıon because we WANT to be ın the sıtuatıon or we provoked some events to be ın our lıves. If you want somethıng - go and get ıt - there are no bars ın thıs world except the ones ın your head.

You are free - to do what you want ın thıs lıfe!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Sounds more like ignorance and racism than culture shock, .......Weird black faces, I mean come on , could you not have used a better term. And I would not consider turkish people to have weird black faces at all.

Judging from how you correspond, I would definitely conclude that you are not a native English speaker, or even someone that has spoken English for a long period of time, and you most likely do not come from Western Europe, probably from one of the Eastern European countries, most likely a former Soviet Union Country. Cause that is where you would have to come from to say such things like you said. I guess in those rundown parts of Eastern Europe, no one wants to go there or live there, so you are only accustomed to seeing your own types.

Travel a bit more, experience the world some more, then maybe next time you would be wise enough not to say something like turkish people having weird black faces.

I have never saıd on the forum I am a natıve Englısh speaker - noooooooo - not me.

About travellıng - I have been to 8 European countrıes - lıved ın some of them for some tıme. And ıf you read some of my messages - I already wrote my natıonalıty.

About black faces that dısturbed you so much - have you seen people ın Bebek after suntannıng salon ????? They look lıke they have never heard about cancer - that ıs what I personally consıder strange.

You need to start beıng more tolerant to people as I consıdered you a wıse and helpful person here on thıs sıte.

I am tolerant, but just not of racist, or ignorant comments thats all. Maybe it is the fact that you do not speak English as a native speaker, that made your comment sound the way it does. If you take a step back, you will definitely see that saying " weird black faces" might not be the best term to use.
