Hi there,
I am temporarily working in Istanbul. My first official salary payment was for the month of December 2009, which I received the 5th of January. So, I also got paid for January and February and in 4 weeks time as well for March. That will be the last time as I will move to the UK.
Now I was wondering if I could get any return on the paid income taxes. Based on my annual salary I am in the 27% layer (2009 rates). However, I only worked for 1 month in 2009 (December) which would make my income in Turkey for 2009 fall under the 15% layer.
With my 3 months salary in 2010 (yes, it is 100% sure I will not be working in Turkey anymore after this month) I will fall under the 20% layer.
Could anyone please explain me if I could get any tax returns and if so, how I should do that?
Thanks in advance! Sjors

Dear Martins,
You have to declare your return for 2009 as a non resident taxpayer. You will only declare your Turkey based income. If your wage is being withold you will not include it to tax return. If you have additional income types as t-bond gains, buy-sell gains, proffessional income or else you will include them also.
For 2010 you will be a resident taxpayer if you continiosuly be in Turkey for or more than 6 months in calendar year. Temporarily leavings are not regarded for the calculation of this duration. Being a resident taxpayer is a clear issue:you will have to declare both uk and turkish based income and deduct uk income from turkish income in the return.
