I need the advice of those of you who bought/sold a car foreigner-to-foreigner: I am a Belgian and just bought a car from an Italian citizen. The Turkish government tells me the sales contract needs to be signed in one of our embassies/general consulate. However, when I called my Belgian embassy and general consulate, they told me they are not authorized to do this. Did anyone had similar issues and how did you solve them?

As far as i know what happens with buying as you did, or buying from a Turk. You need to go to the tax office and see that there is no fines or outstanding tax on the car that you are buying, then go to the notary office to complete the deal. I have bought 3 cars here from Otto garages, and that is what happened. Never heard anything about embassies/general consulate. But this is Turkey and no one, even the police are never sure.
