Hi, I'm considering buying a used motorcycle to get to and from work. I'm wondering what potential hassles there may be in terms of transferring the title of the vehicle over to me, and whether it will be necessary for to get a new license plate. Basically I'm just wary of making a purchase and then landing myself in bureaucratic hell. So if anyone could provide some guidance here I would appreciate it very much :)

I am in the same situation. I have a work permit and tax number. I cannot find a straight answer to this question. Can a foreigner with the above documents buy a used motorcycle? And if anyone knows the process that would be fantastic. :D

I have found out the answer to this question.
You need to take your licence to the notary (noter) for translation.
You then need your Ikamet and TC Kim No. to the notar where you can then transfer registration and pay any taxes etc.
If I have any problems with this I will post further information. :D

If your work is not too far why not buy the electric bike, no tax, no licence, no insurance, nothing required, up to 80 klm on 1 charge with a speed of over 30lkm per hr.
:D

Hey there,

I have been living in Istanbul for the past 6 years, currently riding a motorbike in my own name and owned 4 other motorbikes and one car over the past 5 years. The procedure is actually relatively simple. You and the seller need to go to a notary and you need to have handy your passport, ikamet and TC number. The notary carries out the sale as he would for a normal turkish citizen, however , the problems begin when you have to get the license plate changed to an 'M' plate.

You have to register all the sales documents at the traffic emniyet in Aksaray? i believe. It is much easier to get an agent or 'Muameleci' to deal with your paperwork as they can get it done in a minimum of time and only charge 50-70 lira for the sale.

There has, however, been a problem recently in that the TC numbers have been switched to an electronic database and the last time i tried to make a motorbike purchase, the system had not been updated with our Yabanci Numbers. This problem was way back in May and I believe all foreigners who were attempting to buy vehicles then had the same problem.o date, I don't know if this particular problem has been rectified as I simply got the motorbike in my girlfriends name and had a notary make a documents stating i had full control of the vehicle.

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to PM me.
