Since last 2-3 weeks my expat friends keep asking so I decided to write here.In most countries ID card requirement is not available but in Turkey presenting identification is required and failure to present identification ( passport for expats/foreigners ) will create a headache.

Turkish Law on Misdemeanors clearly states that if you fail to present your identification ( while asked by public servants or law enforcement officers ) you will be fined.

Basicly saying I do not have my passport with me will cost you between 75-154 lira.Paying it to the officer while being issued as paper will bring you 3/4 discount on total amount.

Also playing guitar or singing on streets ( without legal permission ) will also bring you a fine.

As a conclusion do not think that Turkish Laws only for Turkish citizens. There is a lot example of being fined by public servants and facing with double fine at airport because of not paying the fines on time ( Maliye which is regional departments of Finance Ministry does inform Yabancılar Sube and Pasaport Sube with the names of persons who has unpaid fines ).
