The funny thing is, it even filters mymerhaba board URLs.

All this is actually making me consider building my own site. There is so much potential if only the mods on here would get off the pedal stool and back to reality.

See the sad thing is that this site used to be those things. I think like everyone else I'll just move on. There aren't enough people participating as it is, and then the mods go around deleting at will.

The ladies who created MM used to see the benefit of having expats playing an active role on this site, but it appears AlexFU (who is actually Turkish and not an expat) has taken over and they are ok with that. Everyone has left and moved on because of this censorship, they have seen this forum go from being a place where expats came to get advice, chat, find work, friends, ect. to what it is today.

I believe that too much censorship often leads to the downfall of many websites. In a community where people have other options, it is not wise to act as a dictatorship. We are the ones who keep this site running. Without us participating, this site would be a waste of cyberspace. Mods should clean up their act a bit and learn to relax some. Only get involved when things get out of hand. We are all adults here and should be able to handle things without other adult supervision.

- was really gonna put some effort into reviving this site and turn it into the go to spot for information, I was even reading up on extra information and finding helpful resources to help others, but now I'm having second thoughts about putting any effort into this site.

I agree with Dream of Turkey! I've been a member of this site since 2003 when it was still located on mymerhaba. I and several ex members did a lot to get this forum up and running when it had almost no membership. It is a shame to see what you have done after all of our hard work. It used to be a great source of info and was very active, obviously the new moderators are doing something wrong since everyone left!

Who are these moderators and what happened to Banu and Zeyda - have they just walked away from this?

All of my PMs arrive safe and sound, so it must be that there's something wrong with your account. Which is not to say it's not irritating, of course. I honestly don't think anybody bothers with PM censorship though. :p

If posts are deleted, and topics locked, should't there be a valid reason for this. Continue doing this and don't be suprised when no one bothers responding to topics and posts anymore. Some of us are doing our best to respond to peoples questions and to generate participation on the site, but it seems the Mods are doing their best to stop participation.

Next time you delete my post, have the decency to let me know the reason why it was deleted. There are other sites with less people as members, yet the participation on those sites are tripple that of this one, and the average login is 5times that of this.

I wanted to bring this topic back up.

I think when site moderators start getting too involved in the site and locking topics, deleting posts that do not violate the TOS, yet were deleted because the Moderators did not feel it was MM friendly, then problems start appearing.

I think it is whack that we cannot post a website link on here without getting the XXX effect. Why is that? This is suppose to be a site where information about living and working in Turkey as an expat is shared. Sometimes extrenal sites will need to be referenced in order to provide more help to a situation. If you limit what your members can do, then off course they will go elsewhere. With so many Expats living in Turkey, this site should be constantly buzzing, yet all I ever see on here are classified ads where people are trying to sell the Iphone.

Also as moderators you have to take the initiative and start topics, and generate interests. Have a thick skin, not everyone is going to like your site and some people will speak negatively of it. We are all fully aware of the other sites, yet we are here. Focus on that instead of worrying about the other sites. Also it's ok if your members are also members of the other sites, If you feel you offer better functions and information then it will show for itself, you do not need to practice censorship. This is not china, and you are not a goverment entity.

If my English was good enough to express my opinion I would post it here, on the other hand I am identifying myself with Mavi and others in many views and so I don´t need to repeat what they have written.

Dear mm team, where is this forum heading for? I found this forum almost 2 years ago when I was going to move to Turkey and it was sooo helpful. I wish mm team stop deleting and locking posts and don´t answer with empty sentences which have no meaning and rather try to run the forum for the sake it was established for:
"To provide a platform to communicate, share experiences, fun and knowledge within the foreign community in Turkey, we are pleased to offer services such as chat, forum, bulletin board etc."

One question for AlexFu: Where it came to Terms of Service you answered that they appear during registration. Aren´t they identical with Terms of Service on the main mm page? Probably not, otherwise I cannot understand why you don´t tell people: "Go mm main page and read the terms." I don´t mean this is the most serious topic, just wondering if you personally know where and what the terms are.

Credibility isn't something they can mandate- or, apparently, have the ability to cultivate.

AF, step back from the rhetoric. Carl and I both want to see you succeed. Whatever your presumption of our motivation is, it is profoundly inaccurate. Own up to your mistakes instead of lashing out at those who care enough to tell the emperor that he's not wearing any clothes. This week could have been an opportunity to grow this community- instead, you've settle on a course that continues to alienate.

People who come here have an investment, brand-loyalty- they chose to come here! It takes a concerted effort to overcome feelings of association and fraternity. People aren't leaving because of an inducement from elsewhere- they are leaving with great reluctance after being pushed.

My recommendations for a constructive outcome:

1) Your words have to have meaning; don't solicit criticism/advice, then reject what you get without consideration or address. If you want respect, you have to show integrity.

2) Word of mouth is a powerful thing, and this isn't the only soap-box; learn to play nice with your peer group (other venues). Frankly, what is offered HERE and THERE is different, and there is no reason you can't compliment each other rather than act as competitors- the difference is attitude and disposition.

3) As with any public conversation, assume good-faith.

4) Be committed to your good decisions; inflexibly adhering to a course of action -despite counter-purpose effects- is self destructive.

5) Autocratic conversation is a monologue, not a dialog. If you want to run an answer desk, then that level of control might work. If you want a forum, the gag is an impediment.

have a free go?
unethical campaigns?

bending the truth?

Can you please talk us through this in a little more detail? I have no idea what you are talking about or what you are trying to say? All it appears you have done is stick a few cliches together joined by a few grammatical conjunctions without any attempt to try and create a meaningful sentence. Did you read through this before hitting the post button?

And why do you keep locking threads?!?!?!?!

Couple questions:

Was there something in the Terms of Service forbidding 1) the discussion of site policy or 2) resources outside the confines of this venue?
